World Languages

Teaching Young World Languages Learners I: Planning Meaningful Experiences

Dates: April 8 – April 26 (Orientation week: April 2 – April 7)
Credit: 1 MSDE Continuing Professional Development Credits # 13-00-01
Fee: The fee for this course is underwritten by the Maryland State Department of Education Race to the Top (RTTT) Grant; a limited number of seats are available. Preference will be given to educators participating in the World Languages Pipeline Project under MD's RTTT Grant. Remaining seats, if any, will be given to other Maryland World Languages educators.
NOTE: Teachers who participated in MSDE's Spring 2012 online course Engaging Young Learners in the Language Classroom I are not eligible to enroll in this course.
Description: This fully online course will provide an overview of the characteristics of young learners and implications for language teaching. The course is designed to help Maryland world language teachers understand how to tailor course planning, instructional strategies, and assessment for young learners. The textbook required for the course will be provided.
