BeWhatIWantToBe.com was created by the Maryland Business Roundtable for Education (MBRT), a nonprofit group supporting strong public education. MBRT is supported by many of the major employers in Maryland and the Maryland State Department of Education, thought the site does not promote any company or line of work. It exists purely to enable young people to see and explore the unlimited range of career choices available to them, and to understand what they need to do in school now to prepare. Having well-educated and well-informed graduates is good for everyone.

Be What I Want To Be is based on extensive research in which MBRT asked young people what they want to know about how to choose a career. They told us. The result is a website that not only answers students’ countless career questions, but also helps young people to do their own thinking. The very first screen on the site focuses a student on these questions: “What Do I Want To Be?” “What Are My Goals?” “How Can I Start Preparing Now?”

Those profiled include engineers, teachers, writers, technicians, administrators, artists, medical professionals, scientists, mechanics, and many others. It’s an unbeatable resource for young people and a great motivator for working hard and preparing now in school for the future.
