CTE - Taking the Classroom to Infinity and Beyond

Dave Peloff and Sam Abramovich of CTE have been spending more than their fair share of time in outer space (and we’re a little jealous!). Take a look at some of their recent LG2G-related work and you'll see what we mean:

  • Dave and Sam recently visited the "Challenger Center for Space Science Education" and observed middle-school students participating in a simulated space voyage to study Halley’s Comet.
  • They met with the former director of the Hayden Planetarium to learn about educational, space-based simulations, and they witnessed a demonstration of a cutting-edge, museum-based simulator currently being constructed in South Korea.
  • They are also developing an extensive unit plan for teachers that will utilize the open-source free-space simulation program, "Celestia." The unit will correlate directly to the Maryland Statistics curriculum for middle-schoolers, and it will be posted on Thinkport upon completion.

And of course, on their frequent trips back to the mother ship, Dave and Sam continue their work with Johns Hopkins' Applied Physics Lab (APL) on the conceptual development of the LG2G VR simulation (scheduled to be demonstrated at next year’s Emerging Technology Symposium).
