Gregg Hostetler, a mathematics teacher at Northern Garrett High School, takes giving students access to technology personally. He obtained roughly 30 used Macintosh computers, refurbished them, and networked them for use in his classroom. He has sought donations and written grants, one of which allowed him to purchase an LCD projector for his classroom. A projection system he obtained for use in the gymnasium is the only one of its kind in the area. Additionally, he helped set-up a LCD projector and screen in the school’s media center. Staff at the school turn to him as the “go-to” person for technological questions and advice. The Garrett County Public School system has also benefited from his expertise: the databases he designed to track student assessments and visits to health rooms are used countywide.
