Media specialist John McDonald met the challenge of opening Marriotts Ridge High School in Howard County with an eye to making sure its technology would be long lasting—and useful. He advised on the purchase of technology, tracked equipment, and supervised the installation of LCD projectors and televisions. For his television production classes, he designed and built a lab. In the classroom, his work with InterWrite boards inspired other teachers to use the technology. He has also passed along his expertise in designing Web sites, constructing WebQuests, and using various software packages. Through his efforts, his students are working in conjunction with the Howard County Conservancy on the taping and production of an oral history project with lifelong Howard County residents.
