    In this lesson from EDSITEment, students learn about the life and work of civil rights leader Martin Luther King, Jr. Students listen to a brief biography, view photographs of the March on Washington, hear a portion of King's "I Have a Dream" speech, and discuss what King's words mean to them. Finally, they create picture books about their own dreams of freedom for Americans today.

    In this activity, learn about Leon Day, one of the few Negro League baseball players inducted in the Baseball Hall of Fame. As a child, Day enjoyed watching the Baltimore Black Sox play and was inspired to become a baseball player himself. During his 22-year career, Day traveled to different countries playing baseball. In Baltimore, Maryland, you will find a street called Leon Day Way, and a park dedicated in his honor.
