6th Grade Science/7th Grade Computer Applications

Nina Hoffman is an exemplar of integrating technology into the content areas. A teacher of 6th grade science and 7th grade computer applications at Argyle Middle School in Montgomery County, her science students frequently use a SMART Board and present their scientific findings with PowerPoint and Excel. Combining newer technologies with traditional ones, she uses a FlexCam in conjunction with an LCD projector and microscope to show students real microorganisms. She started an afterschool Web design club. She has also created Webquests and online activities for her students. Her commitment to technology is clear from her efforts in training other staff; she recently helped the school transition to using new computers. Once students get home, they can continue to learn and to share their classroom experience with their families using course materials Hoffman publishes online.
