Heather Krasman, a computer literacy teacher at North East Middle School in Cecil County, expertly integrates technology into the content areas. This skill comes from experience. She taught social studies for five years and completed her master’s degree in curriculum and instruction. She has been called upon to create curriculum at the school and county levels and demonstrated best practices at a county technology showcase. An early technology leader, she participated in the Cecil County Public Schools Laptop Initiative in 2000. In the classroom, her students use technology at all stages in projects. For example, her students designed a music store by surveying classmates about musical interests, analyzing data, creating a floor plan with a graphics program, and setting up a database of customers. Krasman has been accepted into her county’s leadership academy for 2006.
