Pamela Lippy's students at Walkersville Middle School in Frederick County recently went along with Congressman Roscoe Bartlett on an excursion to Antarctica. He was there; the students traveled via teleconference. Her students then created a Web site about Antarctica. A tsunami WebQuest she created was selected by a WebQuest expert as an exemplary use of the tool, and it was shared during a videoconference in Melbourne, Australia. Lippy, an education resource and enrichment teacher, has reached out to parents through technology. Because of her efforts, the school's newspaper is now online, giving access to parents at home. During family nights, she uses software and Web sites to have parents and children work cooperatively, and she helped parents learn how to monitor students' academic progress on-line.
