While other high school students are playing video games, the students in Martin Nikirk's classes are creating them. An advanced computer applications teacher at Washingon County Technical High School, Nikirk's computer game design and animation class has drawn the attention of industry professionals and other school systems. His students are trained to be potential technology professionals beyond video gaming. They manage network servers and hardware at the school, participate in technology seminars, and have in-class discussions with representatives from Dell, Gateway, and other technology companies, as well as with local college professors. Nikirk's students present an annual “Senior Technology Show” that demonstrates accomplishments to local business leaders, parents, and college professionals.
