State of the State Survey

The U.S. Department of Education, in conjunction with the Star Schools awarded to Thinkport,  provided additional funding to conduct a survey to help further understand the current use of technology in Maryland's classrooms.

The survey provides data from the teachers' perspective on the targets and standards outlined by the Maryland's, Plan for Technology.  A complement to the State’s Technology Inventory (completed by school administrators) the State of the State survey,  captures the responses of 664 K-12 teachers from all 24 Maryland school districts measuring Teachers’ technology knowledge and skills, access to technology, use of technology for instructional and administrative purposes and professional development experiences and interests. The results show Maryland’s accomplishments in technology access and integration as well as areas where more effort is needed if the state is to reach its goals.

The first six survey reports are available in PDF format.
(requires Adobe Acrobat Reader)
Part 1: Student Technology Use
Part 2: Teacher Knowledge and Skills
Part 3: Administrative Use of Technology by Teachers
Part 4: Professional Development
Part 5: Access to Technology
Part 6: Assistive Technology

The Survey was conducted by Macro International, in collaboration with Maryland Public Television and Johns Hopkins University Center for Technology in Education.  All data were collected during spring 2002.
