Active Screen Time
Make screen time an active time for learning new concepts and to practice beginning skills. Join the fun and encourage children to sing, dance, count, name letters and problem solve with their favorite characters. Children learn more from high-quality, age-appropriate digital media when a caregiver is present. Ask open-ended questions that challenge children to make their own discoveries and connections. Be ready with hands-on activities to extend the learning, and promote exploration, physical activity, and creative play.
Children should not be slumped alone in front of a TV or computer to watch an educational program. The absence of an engaged adult creates missed opportunities to foster their learning and development. Instead, make screen time an active learning time for children to learn new concepts and practice important skills across all learning domains.
